Antonio, Her Italian Millionaire (BWWM Romance Book 1)

“Yes, that very one. Someone put in an offer outbidding you.”

“What?” she ran her fingers through her hair. “No…I’m working on a really tight budget.”

“I know. You told me that but the truth is that I cannot ignore the other bid.”

She took a long deep breath and sighed.

“How much is this other person offering?” she asked.

“Ninety grand.”

She shook her head.

“Why? That place is a piece of shit!”

“Well, maybe he saw the same thing you saw in said piece of shit. Potential,” Ray said.

“Fine. I’ll raise my offer to ninety five.”

“Good. I’ll let him know,” he said.

“I need this to work, Ray,” she said in a low but serious voice. She would have liked to say the same words as she looked into his eyes just so he could see how serious she was.

“I know, Zianna,” he said in a soft voice. “I know.”

When she hung up, her heart was racing. For her, this was about more than just a property acquisition. It was more than just about flipping a building. Getting that building meant everything to her because this was the one thing her father had always wanted. And for her, doing it was just another way to make her father proud even though he was not here to see it. She knew that as he looked down on her, he most definitely would have been proud.

Antonio Ricci took one last bite of his spaghetti Bolognese and put his fork down. He had a satisfied smile on his lips as he took a sip of his red wine.

“That was your best plate of spaghetti Bolognese yet, Fabio,” Antonio said before he took another sip of his wine. “You must tell me the secret.”

“I tell you every time, Mr. Ricci. It is the same recipe I served you and your family all these years,” he said as he walked up to Antonio’s table holding two boxes in his hand. “I know you are always in a hurry. So I packed you dessert. Some cannoli and tiramisu.”

Antonio shook his head.

“You know I have had to let out every pair of pants I have because of this tasty food I get in here?” he asked and Fabio laughed.

“We are Italian. We know nothing about being overweight,” he said before he walked back to the kitchen.

Antonio smiled and took another sip of his wine.

“So, are we finally leaving or what?” Nina, his date asked as she looked at him.

Sometimes he looked at her and wondered why he had ever given her a second look. Well, of course she was a beautiful woman. That was the first thing he had noticed about her. Her perfect look right out of a magazine. The kind of look you spent a lot of money to maintain and he had known from the very first time that he was going to have to bleed money just to maintain her and at the time, he didn’t mind. All he ever wanted was a fuck. And she was perfect for the job but as time went on, he realized that he was way in over his head. She was not really what he'd bargained for.

Instead, she was everything he resented. Stubborn. Insecure. Demanding.

“You know I have business, Nina,” he said and she reached for her own glass of wine. She took a long sip and pushed a lock of her silky blond hair behind her ear.

“You always have business Tony,” she said in a little passive aggressive tone, something that he had grown accustomed to. Sadly.

“Well, I do have to do something to finance that very high life you love, now. Don’t I?” he asked and she rolled her eyes before taking another sip of her wine.

“Now that you mentioned it, I have to pass by the mall. I need some new shoes for that fashion show this weekend,” she said and Antonio raised an eyebrow over the other.

“What fashion show?” he asked.

“Remember, I told you my friend is launching her clothing line?” she asked. “Anyway, she asked me to make an appearance and I don’t want to let her down,” she added before he could say anything.

He reached for his inside jacket pocket and pulled out the wad of cash before he handed her what was roughly two thousand dollars.

“That should be enough,” he said. “More than enough.”

She took the money and pushed her chair back before she got up from the table. She walked to where he was and bent down to kiss him softly.
